Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror |
|
Nosferatu is known as one of the most compelling movies about the vampire myth, if not the most influential. As an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel it made artistic changes to character names and locale names in an attempt to fly under the radar. What was produced has enchanted lovers of the vampire mythology and other lovers of the grim and horrific since its release in 1922. |

Nosferatu is the first and only Prana Film produced. The company declared bankruptcy after being sued by the widow of Bram Stoker, acting on behalf of his estate. She won two lawsuits and required that all copies of the film be destroyed but fortunately they had already been distributed as far as America and have thus been saved and released and even restored. The film's director added his own brand of Expressionism to the film using uniquely framed architecture, superimposed images, and negative images. |
